VARANE TAKES RESPONSIBILITY FOR MADRID'S CHAMPIONS LEAGUE EXIT.

Raphael Varane won't stop blaming himself for Real Madrid's shocking round of 16 defeat at the Etihad after two shocking mistakes that lead to goals.

The central back gifted Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus goals on a platter. Two goals which obviously decided Madrid's exit from the Champions League and sealed Manchester City's progress into the next round.

Karim Benzema leveled Raheem Sterling's early opener before Gabriel Jesus doubled the lead. Both goals which scaled them through to the last four of the tournament with an aggregate 4-2 lead.

Sergio Ramos was missing in action as he was suspended in the first leg and his absence was felt.Real Madrid having won the title three times in a row will be missing out on this one.

Raphael Varane has this to say,

"This defeat is mine,i have to accept it".

"I am responsible for this defeat. We had prepared well but you pay for your mistakes.I am sad for my team mates.

"At 1-1 we had the chance to qualify and today things did not go to plan.
